The Golan
In May 1984 we produced an issue dedicated to the Golan. It was the height of the negotiations between Israel and Syria and the debate over withdrawal from the Golan was raging all over Israel.23 years have passed. The fiery Golan Heights have long become the Golan, one of the most scenic areas of Israel. Much of the Golan is open spaces and nature reserves, it has an amazing concentration of ancient sites, a diverse population from all walks and segments of Israel, a budding high-tech agriculture, an amazing educational system, including a college that will develop into the university of the north. This special issue includes a taste of all of that. From the 31 ancient synagogues discovered on the Golan to the experiments in raising teff wheat, the world’s next super grain. It is packed with insight that you will not find anywhere else.
